VJ Profile

Channel the charm of traditional Queenslander homes with our VJ Profile panelling. This design features a distinctive “V” groove milled into E0 (emission zero) Moisture-resistant MDF sheets. This simple yet elegant detail replicates the classic VJ (Vertical Joint) found in tongue and groove boards. Our V groove panelling offers a touch of nostalgic character to your walls and ceilings.

Traditional Beaded Profile

Steeped in history, our Traditional Beaded Profile panelling evokes the charm of late 19th and early 20th century interiors. Crafted from E0 (emission zero) Moisture-resistant MDF, these panels feature a subtle “pencil round” bead with crisp vertical edges. This timeless design, reminiscent of wall linings from the 1880s to 1920s, adds a touch of sophistication and elegance to any space.

VJ Wall & Ceiling Panels FAQs

VJ sheets need proper storage to prevent warping. Lay them flat on a raised surface, clear of the ground. To ensure even weight distribution, use supports (bearers) placed every 600mm.

For optimal results, wait 48 hours after delivery before installing VJ sheets. This allows them to acclimatise to the environment. It’s crucial to ensure the building is watertight with a roof, cladding, doors, and windows installed.

Maintain a minimum gap of 10mm between the VJ sheets and the floor/ceiling to allow for expansion and contraction.

When installing the sheets on walls, the recommended stud spacing is a maximum of 450mm. If a sheet seam doesn’t land on a stud, add horizontal supports (noggins) at 600mm intervals for additional stability.

A combination of adhesive and nails is recommended for fixing the sheets to the wall. Apply a 6mm bead of adhesive along studs, plates, and noggins. A typical usage is one 320g cartridge per sheet. For nails, use 40 x 2.0mm bullet head nails or 32/40 nail gun finishing pins. Nail the sheets at 600mm intervals on studs and 300mm on top/bottom plates and noggins. Remember to leave a 3mm gap in corners for movement, which can be covered with moulding later.

If you’re installing VJ sheets over existing linings on the wall, the nails must penetrate the existing lining and reach the wall frame for a secure fixing.

Yes, but metal furring channels or damp-proofed timber battens are required. These prevent moisture transfer and allow for proper airflow.

  • Similar to wall lining installation, VJ sheets for ceilings should be delivered 48 hours beforehand and kept dry.
  • Maintain a minimum clearance of 10mm between the sheets and the walls/beams.
  • Seal the backside of all sheets and any cut edges before installation.
  • Use a quality polyurethane adhesive (6mm snaked bead) along with mechanical fasteners. If using nails, apply them at an angle in a crosshatch pattern (300mm apart) on the battens.
  • For verandah ceilings, apply a suitable paint finish immediately after installation.

The pre-primed VJ sheets come with a base coat applied by Akzo Nobel. If you’re installing in wet areas, or near them, for additional protection, seal the backside, cut edges, and sheet faces with a high-quality paint suitable for your location. Remember to remove any dust from the grooves for a clean and professional finish.
